The Mission
of Black Lives Bettered

Our mission, simply stated, is to work to make black lives better by helping individuals overcome the obstacles that data suggests are most likely to keep them in poverty.

Obstacles to Overcome

Teen Pregnancy and Single Motherhood

Crime

According to the FBI Uniformed Crime Statistics, in 2015 there were 2,380 black people who were killed by other Blacks. The number of lives ended, or ruined, by these murders, however, is much higher than 2,380 when you take into account the families of the victims, the lives of the offenders who are sent to prison, and the families of the offenders who must also do without that person in their day to day lives. Black communities have been severely hurt by these high rates of crime and as the majority of the victims and offenders of violent crimes are male, this also adds further to the single motherhood rate as fathers, or would be fathers, are either killed or sent to jail.

The non-profits that we choose to partner with are all fighting to reduce crime in our black communities.

A Better Future

According to an article by the Brookings Institute, there are three things that can be relied upon to help Americans get out of poverty.
1. Graduating high school
2. Getting a full-time job, and
3. Waiting until 21 to get married and have kids

The Brookings Institute research suggests that, of adults who followed these three rules, only 2 percent live in poverty. Imagine if we could help 98 percent of our black communities to live lives free from poverty. The mission of Black Lives Bettered is to empower black Americans with the support and resources they need to move towards that goal.
